There are no-nonsense apps that simply present the core conditions and others that provide information in a more vibrant, eye-catching style. While this genre of Windows 10 apps is difficult to narrow down to just a few choices, we sifted through the Store and have this collection to offer as the best weather apps for Windows 10.
[Best Windows 10 apps of 2017](/Best Windows 10 Apps of 2017)
MSN Weather
MSN Weather is a popular offering from Microsoft that covers all of the basics and more. The clean appearance helps add to the attraction of this weather app. Key features for MSN Weather include:
- Local forecast that includes current conditions, 10-day extended forecast, hourly breakdowns of what you should expect from Mother Nature, sunrise and sunset times, and more.
- Animated weather maps that include radar, temperature, satellite, cloud and radar forecast imagery.
- Historical weather information that breaks down a location's monthly weather patterns.
- Severe weather alerts appear on the local forecast page to alert you when the weather bears watching.
MSN Weather also includes a news section so you can get caught up with all the weather headlines. Live Tile support and Lockscreen support are present, and you can log into MSN Weather with your Microsoft Account to synchronize settings and preferences between Windows 10 devices.
I would like to see toast notifications and the option to use local images with the Lockscreen support. Still, it's clear why MSN Weather is as popular as it is. The free Windows 10 app is available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile, as well as Xbox One.

Appy Weather
Appy Weather is one of the cleanest looking weather apps available in the Windows Store. Navigating around the app is fast and fluid, taking full advantage of the panoramic and modern design. Forecast information is presented in a more personal way, not only offering the nuts and bolts of the forecast but also how it feels. For example, if it is brutally cold out today, tomorrow's forecast might add that it should not be as cold as it feels today.
Key features for Appy Weather include:
- Forecasts for today, tomorrow and the upcoming weekend.
- Seven day extended forecast.
- Severe weather notifications.
- Live Tile and Lockscreen support.
Current conditions are abbreviated to display the temperature, a general weather pattern (clear, raining, or cloudy) and a "feels like" temperature. You can extend this display to reveal additional weather information such as chances of rain, cloud cover, wind speed and direction, humidity levels, visibility, barometric pressure, dew point and UV index. If a storm is anywhere close to your location, that information is provided as well.
Appy Weather lacks a weather radar feature, but overall, if you are looking for a clean looking, easy-to-navigate weather app to provide you with no-nonsense weather information Appy Weather is worth a try. The app is available for Windows 10 Mobile, and a seven-day trial version is available to let you try out Appy Weather. The full version of Appy Weather costs $3.99.

Forecast
Forecast joins the ranks of clean-looking, informative weather apps available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile. This weather app covers millions of locations worldwide and offers both Live Tile and Lockscreen support.
Key features for Forecast include:
- Current conditions, along with weekly and hourly forecast periods.
- Meteogram view for weekly and hourly forecast that provides an easy, at-a-glance view of what is expected out of the weather.
- Location awareness to automatically download your weather information based on your current location.
- The background image can be set to Bing's Image of the Day or a color pattern.
While Forecast lacks any weather maps or severe weather notifications, it is a good looking source for basic weather information that can help you plan out your day or week. Forecast currently costs $1.49.

Strawberry Weather
If you are looking for a simple and colorful weather app, check out Strawberry Weather. This Windows 10 weather app delivers your current conditions, an extended forecast, weather alerts and Lockscreen and Live-Tile support, wrapped in a vibrant package.
Key features for Strawberry Weather includes:
- Local forecast information, as well as a seven day, extended forecast.
- Live Tile and Lockscreen support.
- 12 colorful themes.
- Support for Dark Sky weather services (paid subscription) that delivers real-feel temperatures, down-to-the-minute forecasts for the next hour, severe weather alerts and more.
While Strawberry Weather lacks a weather map or radar feature, it has support for toast notifications. Notifications can be set to alert you of routine weather conditions throughout the day, or filtered to only alert you to severe weather issues.
The free app is available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile, with the subscription option for Dark Sky services and a $0.99 option to unlock a premium feature that automatically adds nearby places to your favorite locations page. That feature that could come in handy to alert you to weather conditions as you travel.
All in all, Strawberry Weather is a colorful way to track the weather, and it delivers a ton of features to your Windows 10 device.

Prognoza
Prognoza is an eye-catching weather app for Windows 10 Mobile. The clean design delivers the basic forecast information and current conditions to your phone with Live Tile and Lockscreen support. Prognoza can track your weather based on your Windows 10 Mobile location services or by specific locations that can be added manually.
Other key features for Prognoza include:
- Hourly and seven-day forecasts.
- Current conditions including temperature (current, and high and low), humidity, pressure, sunrise and sunset times, cloud coverage and wind.
- Multiple themes and icon sets to allow you to customize Prognoza's appearance.
- Customizable toast notifications to alert you to specific conditions (sunny, clouds, rain, storms, fog and snow).
- Multiple language support.
The background image for Prognoza reflects the current conditions, and the extended forecast screens are accentuated with similar imagery.
On the downside, Prognoza lacks any weather maps (radar or satellite) preventing it from being a more comprehensive weather source. However, even without weather imagery Prognoza delivers a decent amount of weather information to keep you up to date on the conditions outside. Prognoza currently costs $1.49.

Why not put mobile in the title?
You can down vote me if you like. But I came expecting weather apps for the PC. I'm actually wanting to give apps on desktop a try. So whatever.
Try forecast, it's a great app that I use on the phone and PC
All these apps run in desktop too.
Agreed.Wonder why the downvote.Besides, these apps can make money from wm users that are still holding on.One can view the weather even from Glance screen.I bet no other platform can give that.
Lol this is what is come to with UWP.
To check the weather you open the window and look outside.
Unless you're wearing a sweater and everyone is topless, then you should check the app.People here are still using WM10. Definitely not as much, but it's still in use..
............
The problem is that these iDroid fans have Zero respect. This site wouldn't be here in the first place if it weren't for Windows Mobile, and Phone fans. If these apps are available for mobile WC should have enough respect (and sense) to address that.
After all, Editors on this site say they cover all things Windows related, so....Msn weather and regenmeter
Msn weather too for me
MSN and Yandex for me
MSN Weather I trust too
I've had msn weather mix up data and end up giving me the weather info for some town in California while I'm looking up the weather on a mountain.
Add in the above mentioned Meteostation and you have the 3 weather app's I have pinned to my start screen. All 3 nicely complement each other.
Does your battery drain more with all three apps pinned?
No,I have not noticed anybattery drain due to these 3 apps being pinned.
So where is "Forecast" app?
This!
Been using for long now. And it even show wind speed also in m/s, unlike those others.
Lockscreen, live tiles and alot of others to play with.Even universal and updated for W10. Pretty much better and more reliable then the WC list when it comes to weather in the whole world.
Still like and prefer Beweather.
Thank you for this article! i waws looking for a weather app that had lockscreen support for the longest, and i gave appy weather a try and love it!
Go and try Forecast also
Many of these apps are not universal yet, no point of investing in the apps
The Weather Channel
I like the "myradar" app for the detailed hurricane info (in app purchase).
This is a great app to track storms. Well worth the purchase.
Great app-Mobile and PC. Now has forecasts. Always being updated but wondering for how long.
We don't have hurricanes in The Netherlands..... (LOL)
I use Prognoza and really like it!
Nice apps but where Is MY RADAR?
Even missing in the store!
No its not. Search for MyRadar and it is the first two listings.
It's off the radar. (GNAGNA)
For mobile: Try Spatial Weather, its really unique, and has nice gesture / feedback features. And its free, because its in beta state.
not found in windows store

Windows Mobile king of weather apps.
Lol

On Windows Mobile,One can even have the weather on glance screen together with other notifications.WM is really the king when it comes to Weather apps.
I love app Forecast for my lumia
Try a new UWP app called MeteoStation. It is a virtual weather station and you can choose from tons of stations around the world. Works on PC and Mobile. Great app...
https://www.windowscentral.com/e?link=https2F%2Fclick.linksynergy.co...
Agreed. Although it's not an appthat will replace your regular weather app,I would also highly recommend MeteoStation.
Looks ugly.
4castr & Blue Skies
I find MSN Weather works best for me.AccuWeather doesn't have an active tile. Some say it does but I've never gotten it to work.Weather Channel tile works sporadically.
... and Windows Central has never been short on articles about best weather apps! /s
Just kidding, I appreciate your articles. I do understand that Store is a very dynamic place that changes with time; new weather apps appear and the existing ones get updated, which may give that one feature that we really need. Consequently, this kind of article gets obsolete with time, so a refresh is only appropriate.
Hi all, we'd like to tip you about our newest utility, it's an app to calculate and verify MD5, SHA1....etc hashes and it's called Amazing Hash Utility for Windows 10 PCs, give it a go and tell us what you think :)
Thank you for 4 years of providing my go to weather app. Looking forward to many more. Big fan of AmazingWeatherHD.
Sadly it's not up to par now days
My Favourite app too but I just downgraded to 8.1 after a year or so on the windows insider program and this is no longer available for 8.1
Bummer
The default Msn weather app is all that's needed. Same for news, sports and finance. You aggregate all the internet info, so why people have a dozen redundant apps is beyond my understanding.
Because third-party apps offer something that MSN apps do not? Take a look at lock screen support in MSN Weather, for example. Sure, the 8.1 version has it, but then the feature is deprecated in the Windows 10 version without any actual explanation.
I have stubbornly taken that attitude toward the weather app since I first upgraded toWindows 10 about a year ago, but I really miss the convenience of being able to check the weather without unlocking the phone. The reason I openedthis article was to find a weather app alternative that supports the lockscreen feature. I still don't understand why Microsoft removed that feature when they created the Windows 10 version of their app.
Try forecast, the most reliable for now
I'm fine with MSN Weather ;)
And what about WeatherPro and MeteoEarth, which are by far the best weather apps ever? They were available on Windows for some time and then discontinued as the OS was reset twice with 7.1 and then 10 and user base dwindled.
Hey, an article about weather apps. Makes me feel like it's 2013 again. ;-)
The Weather Channel is the best beside MSN Weather
I've used most of them at one point or another and keep sticking with 4castr. The forecast's are as accurate as any around. The live tile actually updates and the weather alert notifications are a nice feature
4castr is a dead app, no longer receive update, words from the developer
Viaweather for me.
I remember when Blue Skies was hands down the best app; pretty disappointed that it's fallen so far behind.
"It's fallen so far behind" in what way?
The user interface changed to visually stale and the app itself has become much more slow and buggy since being converted to the UWP. The live tile is only functional half the time and even when it is it's not as accurate or useful as it was back when it was a WP 8.1 app.I emailed the author a while ago about it and he claimed it was due to UWP being less open and functional than WP 8.1, but that hasn't seemed to stop other apps from adapting better.
Amazing Weather HD has been my go to weather app going back to WP 7.
And yet again Forecast is left out in the cold by WC when comparing apps. Amazing.
I think they get paid for NOT mentioning it XD
I would never try replacing MSN Weather.
When AccuWeather bought the precursor to MinuteCast and then removed it as a standalone app, I gave up on AccuWeather. It took too long to get to MinuteCast. :( I do use Amazing Weather HD but they need a version without all the bulk of the HD pictures and animations for those of us who want a cleaner and more responsive app. It is still too slow on my 950XL.
amazing weather is love, amazing weather is life
Hello. The MSN Weather is all I need and it works decently on my 640, I don't worry about the lock screen missing feature since 8.1 :-)
Ah, it must have been maybe two months without a listicle for weather apps. The longest period yet.And again, completely overlooking Forecast, the best weather app that has been around almost as long as Windows Phone/Mobile has been, is UWP, has a slick design and options to customize... Unless you absolutely need radar images in your life, get Forecast. It's the best app out there for a quick glance at the current weather on a live tile or your lock screen, and for lots of info and trends in the app itself.https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrfk0z6
It's a shame as an Australian there just aren't any good weather apps. Temperatures vary wildly from what's accurate, none will list wind chill, the only apps that do get info from Australian sources are rarely updated with API updates in the background to keep them running, but basically abandoned as far as the apps are concerned.
MSN Weather app is good for me
I've been using Amazing Weather for a very long time. But changes in W10M somehow prevents the live tile into updating hourly.
Years after years still problems with live tiles :(
I also have have issues with Outlook mail and calendar. Tile refreshes once per day when i am lucky.(Video) 10 Best Weather Apps For Android 2022Weatherbug and its free.
I just wish they had a pro version. I'd gladly pay to get rid of the huge ads.
I used Weatherbug for years. If they had an Ad free version I'd still be using it.
I'm wp fan. But lately there is more news on apps disappearing than joining WM. Following the apps section of WC. Is becoming frustrating. My 930 seems to be the last WM. :(
But it doesn't mean that if WC didn't review a new app, there are no new app arriving in the store. Install appraisin and you'll see lots of new and useful apps.
Thank you for advice. I mean leading apps on ios and android. They rarely land on Windows. Look at fb messenger. How unfinished ...
I've always liked and wanted to keep AccuWeather... But I don't support ad-supported apps that don't have a remove ads option... Glad to see that they finally let you remove ads! Will be downloading again! For info, AccuWeather is the most complete!
I ask Cortana for the weather ;)
I do that as well!
After all, I've found Gismeteo app is best for me.
I've tried plenty of them but being an Australian, NONE of the apps use Australian Govt weather forcasting. so we they can be out by up to 10 degrees at time... SHEESH I just have to use the www.bom.gov.au mobile website (that does not even display correctly)
True their leaders. their app still works on the Nokia X2 - 01.Isaiah Heart
I also find accuweather to be the most informative. It's great to get the detailed weather from my local news station
i still use my eyes and hand, 100% accurate no matter what kind of weather is
True that
Amazing weather hd never updated since windows 10 came out right? I switched to the weather channel
They did update it. They even had a beta for an updated version of the app.
My msn weather has just stopped updating big live tile side. Tried repinning it, no change. L950...
Same here.
You can cross Amazing Weather HD from the list. Delisted from the store and no longer available for sale according to the developer's Twitter feed.
just found out about this.... I'm disappointed. Best lockscreen out of them all.
Oh man! Have the app installed and was part of the beta for the new design. Really like the app. When did this happen?
How do I get a refund for what I paid?
I think it's been a while since the last weather app article.
Accuweathwr easily. Have it on my Lumia 950 and my Xbox One S. On Xbox One S I can be watching Netflix and it will pop up with a weather warning across the bottom. What some app developers are doing with the Xbox One is incredible. If people knew just what it can do as a media device surely people would ditch the likes of Apple TV etc. Dominoes also have an Xbox App. It's amazing how you can snap your order tracker to one side and continue watching TV.
I was using Perfect Weather Universal for quite some time. Went back to Accuweather because it's, like the name, accurate for my area at least. I like how MSN Weather looks but Accuweather has done a better job when it comes to actual local weather status, not just a forecast.
how about an article for must have local apps?
Don't worry about silly little weather apps, what about other apps we need more apps get your finger out MICROSOFT
I have been dreaming
UWP WhatsApp
UWP GMAP PRO/ or Microsoft-made Google maps
Local Bus/train appsMicrosoft should make it happen! It would be great if the UWP AccuWeather app had 15-day forecasts instead of 5-days only.
How accurate is a 15 day forecast?
It's more so that I know what to expect approximately for at least the next week or so. There's a paid 30-day forecast option in the UWP version or something now, but I don't need that. Our weather where I live can change at any moment because of the lakes, so even a one-day forecast can be inaccurate.

Hi, I am the developer of Strawberry Weather.I recently launched a big update to Strawberry Weather, dubbed as version 2.0. I changed the whole UI of the app, basically rewriting from the scratch!I have made a lot of improvements, including..1. Dark Sky weather source
2. Pretty minimal battery usage, as low as 2% for a day
3. Instant GPS lock, in 2 seconds even inside buildings
4. Better toast notifications, they are less annoying nowGeorge, please actually use my app, test the features I have claimed and mention here if they really are worth! At least update the screen shots. The UI of Strawberry Weather in this article is just too old!I am one such developer (not skilled much, because I am learning from online videos and documents in free time), but want to support Windows Mobile despite the falling market share! My app deserves the latest screen shots at least!Ill give it a try right now
I will check it out!
to support Windows Mobile despite the falling market share! nice to hear this from a developer! please add more weather data sources like wunderground.com/weather.com/bom.gov.au/accuweather.com/forecast.io
Forecast.io, now known as Dark Sky is supported currently, planning on oadding other sources as well! :)
Sweet!
What is your weather data source?
Default enabled weather source is OpenWeatherMap, but you can purchase an add-on to enable Dark Sky!
Yep!
MeteoLens screenshots are also outdated. But it is still great that George gives independent apps that much publicity.
Hey,First of all, Nice app!A small question: Do you have any plans to give an option to have the app use 24 hour format instead of AM/PM?
(Video) Meet the Windows 10 WEATHER APPStill using it on all my devices. I really enjoy Strawberry Weather. While the article mentions maps and radar missing, I never cared about those at all anyway. If I want to glance at it, I can easily launch MSN Weather to check out maps and radar. I wanted a simple weather app and so far, Strawberry Weather still provides exactly what I need! I encourage everyone else to give it a try.
You've done a great job with your app! Just purchased your DarkSky upgrade. Thanks for the hard work.
No amazing weather HD?
I heard it was pulled from the store
it is dead end and no longer available for sale
I'll toss out Forecast.
I use it all the time both on pc and mobileWhich weather mobile app supports lock screen notifications, other than MSN Weather
If you mean the notifications that appear on the lock screen below the date and time, Strawberry Weather supports it!
I meant like how you normally see Weather Tile on Start Screen that shows weather for upcoming days not just same day
In settings in the app. You can choose the tile design/layout. You can pick what goes on the front side and back side of the tile. I have todays current temp with forecast on the front and the five day forecast on the back.
You didn't mention their weather data sources. Some are better than others. I would prefer knowing that than having a weather App which looks nice
I like Prognoza, but as all the other apps that use Forecast.io as service provider, it's highly inacurate in Croatia. Same as Blue sky and bunch of other apps.
Therefore, best option as well most accurate one is default MSN Weather app.Yandex weather app is the best out there. Even has a precipitation map showing you where the rain is and where it will be moving to. Changes my location as I move around the city. Very accurate too. Lots of info on the live tile, specially on the biggest tile setting.
For Canadians, The Weather Network app works the best. It is available for PC, Phone, and Xbox One
is it UWP, if not they should consider doing it.
WeatherBug is my favorite for mobile.
This used to be my favorite but in the last year their radar maps became highly unreliable and just downright stopped working most of the time so I had to ditch it and move to AccuWeather.
Strange how nobody mentions Aurora weather, It's fantastic, 3 way flip on the live tile, accurate in my area,'uk', and very comprehensive customization with pictures denoting weather conditions currently! Worth a look.
Whoever MSN uses as their source for weather info, is awful. Never ever right.
Strange. In Austria it's so damn precise it's frightening
Hmmm. Detroit. Honestly, temperature is accurate, but it's ability to call rain or snow is WAY off.
It's great in Croatia, too.
I use accuweather and lockie for lockscreen weather forecast.. Both works good for my location..
There's really only ONE feature I care about in a weather app - Hail warnings and ability to see and track the storm tracks of hail-bearing thunderstorms. (This feature also tracks any storm capable of producing tornadoes, too, since the updrafts required for hail and tornadoes are the same...) Several years ago, the Wunderground app (on iOS and Android - on Windows I used the web) did a great job of this - but it's been lobotomized twice, first when the Weather Channel bought Weather Underground, and then to the point of uselessness when IBM bought WU.Right now, I use the Weather Radar Pro app, but it's hardly worth the money, and isn't nearly as good as the free Wunderground app was several years ago. (Radar Scope isn't bad, but isn't available on Windows...)This is a real need - there are plenty of good general forecast apps, but nothing that can really give you a good view of the weather that can destroy your property and pets/livestock. Tracks are hugely important - here in Austin, for instance, we frequently have bad storms in the area, but only rarely would we really need to evacuate the cars in the driveway to nearby shelter. (FWIW, weather.gov is better than all of ordinary forecast apps, just not as pretty. Their very frank and honest Forecast Discussions reveal how often they truly have no idea what's going to happen, because the models are either all over the place, or predicting things that are flat-out crazy...)
BTW, the screencaps in this article are so incredibly huge they totally destroy the ability to actually read or scan through the article - and I'm reading on a bloody 4K monitor!!These images could be a quarter (or less) of their current size (and maybe - I know this is a radical idea - actually *side-by side*!!!) and we'd all be a lot better off.
All the above, yes. I find MyRadar outstanding for providing immediate radar map for the discerning amateur meteorologist, pilots and anyone on the go for forecasts.
I am looking for a good weather app for lockscreen / live tile.. i want to get the weather without having to open an app for current/5 day forcast.. anyone have any suggestions? amazing weather had great lockscreen and live tiles, but we all know thats gone now.
The radar map section on the W10M MSN Weather app needs some work. Poor use of screen real estate IMO. Looked WAY better in earlier versions.
I want you to define "lock screen support" Most of these that I have tried don't show that common thing that you want to see on the lock screen, the temperature. MSN Weather, added to the lock screen doesn't show anything.4Castr will at least show the temp on the lock screen, not sure if any of these others do, but after emaiing the devleoper, he won't do anymore updates on the app so if it breaks, it is done unfortunately.
Forecast does a decent lock screen. One the reasons I tried it after amazing weather bit the dust.
I miss AmazingWeatherHD :'(
Prognoza is great app
Msn weather is nice tooMiss Amazing Weather HD. RIP. I would pay to bring it back.
I bought every one of them, that is paid, of course. 😀 Love weather apps!
Sadly, developer of Prognoza announced that he is abandoning app because of lack of support from MS. If I understand him correctly.
Appy weather seems left to die, too. It didn't get the update for a long time.
Sad to see such a great devs quiting on the platform, but it's understandable.
On the other hand, I can suggest great app called Weather BETA. It's updated on a regular basis, free, Ad free, great looking with very nice live tile options. And yeah, I don't know why it has BETA in name. I never found any bug, it never crashed on me.
Only downside is that live tile can't be updated more often then every 3 hrs. All in all, great app.
And for MS... What's with that pixelated weather symbols on live tile?!?I like the default one more than the rest listedabove.
MSN is the best
4castr is fully featured and is unique in offering a full sized live tile radar outside of the US for free!
NOAA isn't available from the mobile store, anymore.
I use MyRadar, as it uses live tiles.I know a lot of people like Forecast, but I need to advise against it. I've used it ever since Amazing Weather HD (my prior favorite weather app) was retired. Forecast is a great app on paper, but myself and some others have experienced a fairly deal-breaking issue, and the dev basically said it was out of his hands to fix.Neither the live tile or lockscreen update unless the app is manually opened - obviously this renders both those core features fairly useless. In my case this issue has persisted despite reinstalling the app, and even after a from-scratch phone reset (without using any backup app or device information).I reached out to the dev, who responded by saying he didn't know what the problem was and that it was likely the fault of the Windows 10 Mobile background task service. I responded by saying I hoped he would work to correct the issue moving forward, as this was a paid app. Small as the price may be, functioning live tiles and lock screen support are part of the advertised product. I never heard back and the issue still persists - this was in June.I know many other people don't have this issue, so if things are working for you that's great. But I did want to share my story for anyone considering this app so they can know that there are indeed issues with this otherwise great app.
MRLevel3 by Gibson Ridge is a great level 3 radar viewer! It is on the expenisve side, but it works really well. The dual panel mode is great for tornadoes too.
I just added Grammarly as an extension on edge. testing to see how well it works on this comment section. Seems to quickly identify poor spelling, which is a constant problem for me. Plus I believe that Windows central does not have a default spell checker on its web site. Maybe, the writers at Windows central will add it to their posts, because I see a lot of errors. I would imagine the time to publish prevents sufficient editing.Weather apps are good.
I used WeatherBug forever. I'd pay for no ads if they'd create that option. Currently I use MyRadar and the default app on my Elite x3.
Thank you to all who responded here. I'm always looking to try out good apps that are still available via the mobile store.I use MS weather and Yandex Weather. MS Weather because is integrates with the calendar and Yandex Weather because it's most accurate and has good maps.
